Portugal

Rating: 5 out of 5.

We stayed with Vicki’s daughter who lives in Carvoeiro, a beautiful little beach town in Portugal. Her apartment was an enjoyable and short walk through the shopping district to the beach.

Formerly a fishing village, Carvoeiro is flanked on either side by the sandstone sea cliffs characteristic of southern Portugal. The town’s horseshoe-shaped bay is hailed as one of the Algarve’s best beaches, with golden sand backed by whitewashed Mediterranean houses.

The Carvoeiro boardwalk is a beautiful clifftop walk along an accessible, raised wooden platform that leads from the Nossa Senhora da Encarnação Fort down to the Algar Seco rock formations.

At less than 600m, it’s only a short distance from one end to the other and provides stunning uninterrupted views out over the water and is particularly beautiful at golden hour (both around sunrise and sunset).
