Biosphere 2 is an American Earth system science research facility located in San Manuel near Oracle, Arizona. It has been owned by the University of Arizona since 2011. The facility is located in the Sonoran Desert and is used to study and understand natural and man-made changes to the Earth. Biosphere 2 is also a popular tourist attraction, with daily tours available to visitors. The facility was named “Biosphere 2” because it was the second instance of self-contained ecosystem experiments.
