Pre-COVID trip to China took us to Tiananmen Square, Terra Cota Warriors, Shanghai, and some intimate locations as you’ll see. There were many opportunities to shop, whether we wanted to or not.
Tiananmen Square is a large city square in the center of Beijing, China. It has great cultural significance as it has been the site of several notable events in the country’s history. The most well-known of these is the protests and resulting military crackdown that occurred in 1989. Today, the square is a popular tourist attraction, and it is surrounded by many important landmarks such as the Forbidden City, the Great Hall of the People, and the National Museum of China.
The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. The sculptures were buried with the emperor in around 210-209 BCE with the purpose of protecting the emperor in his afterlife. The Terracotta Army is in Xi’an, China and is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The collection consists of more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses, making it one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in the world.
The Great Wall of China is an ancient wall that was built over 2,000 years ago. Located in northern China, it is the longest wall in the world and is considered one of the greatest wonders of the world. The wall was built over a period of many centuries, beginning in the 7th century BC, and continuing through the Ming dynasty, which ended in the 17th century. The Great Wall was built to protect China from invading armies and is made up of many different sections, each with its own unique features and history. Today, the Great Wall is a popular tourist destination and a symbol of Chinese culture and heritage.
Shanghai is a major city in China and one of the world’s most populous cities. It is a global financial center and an important transport hub in East Asia. The city is known for its historical landmarks such as the Bund and Yu Garden, as well as its modern skyline featuring the Shanghai Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Oriental Pearl Tower. Shanghai is also well known for its traditional cuisine and many shopping opportunities, making it a popular destination for tourists from around the world.
